Laser Engineering Technician

Job Summary

The Laser Engineering Technician will support engineering with moderately complex engineering duties and / or hands-on tasks. Involved in the development, characterization, and improvement of laser systems. Assist in the definition engineering requirements, specify design and components, assemble, characterize, and validate new lasers or improvements of existing laser systems. Identify optical components including lenses, laser materials, fiber optics, and other related components. Assist in the specification, purchasing, and qualification of laser parts.
 

Job Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to engineers and scientists on moderately complex components, devices, material, products, processes and/or equipment
• Test, modify, rework, and repair electronic, optical, and mechanical assemblies
• Work from complex assembly drawings, work instructions, engineering specifications and sketches
• Build and test prototype assemblies and production units
• Use judgment to bring unit within quality control specifications
• Test, inspect, and repair electronic, optical, or mechanical assemblies
• Work under minimal supervision and may provide guidance to other technicians
• Capable of performing and implementing manufacturing processes
• Interpret and follow written documents such as SOPs and safety rules
• Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements applicable to the company in accordance with State and Federal regulations and any applicable certification required to maintain the certification
• Interface with other departments to assure efficient flow of information and materials
• Perform Key Performance Indicators
• Meet Engineering deadlines
• Quality of finished product (Pass/fail rates)
• Ability to coordinate several activities at the same time, and to reprioritize in response to changing operational conditions
• Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization
• Perform alignment, testing, and troubleshooting of semiconductor lasers and laser optical systems 
• Must use optical, mechanical, and electrical tools and test equipment for measurement, alignment, and testing 

Qualifications

• 1+ year experience in a technical discipline or equivalent experience in the field or in a related area 
• High school diploma or GED
• Competent technical expertise

The expected pay scale for this position is $28.00/hr. - $38.00/hr. Should the level, location, or scope of the position change during the hiring process, the pay scale may be modified accordingly.
