Job Summary
The Quality Inspector 2 performs inspection activities to assess conformance of products to the design as defined by the engineering drawings and/or models, and contract requirements. His/her work is involved during first article and pre-production development, and production stages of manufacturing and assembly. The Quality Inspector shall also verify all assembly work and documentation are complete and cabinet is ready to ship prior to the cabinet travelling to QA for final inspection and GSI.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs inspection activities, to assess conformance of products to the design as defined by the engineering drawings and/or models
- Inspects products, components, subassemblies, and/or systems to ensure conformance to requirements
- Ensures all assembly documents, such as build books and test books, are maintained daily, with all entries kept up to date and accurate
- All shop floor originated non-conformance Discrepancy Report (DR) to be written by Quality Inspector for the program they support, except for those written by the QE, ME, Test Tech or Engineering
- Creates organizational value by implementing innovative solutions and best practices involved in all processes of the product realization value stream
- Organizational value may include assembler oversight and/or coaching of workmanship standards, drawing requirements, assembly documentation/notes to prevent assembly errors from occurring and to ensure conformance to requirements; the expected benefit is a reduction or elimination of written non-conformances for assembly related errors, as these would have been resolved before the task is complete and signed off
- Assists Quality Engineers with identifying nonconforming conditions that present existing or impending defective conditions at the system or subsystem level of assembly
- Assists Quality Engineers prepare inspection plans and checklists for inspection
- Assist Quality Engineers with data collection and root cause analysis investigations
- Generate discrepancy notices and initiate Material Review Board actions
- Perform material movement transactions after completing inspection process
- Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
- Fostering professional working relationships with peers to further the output of the group and to learn and teach within the group
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2+ years of Quality Inspection experience in a production manufacturing environment
- Fluency reading Dimensioned Engineering/Manufacturing Drawings with Bills of Material, Notes, Dimensional Tolerances with Critical to Quality Features
- PLC experience or experience reading a PLC schematic
- Familiarity applying Industry Workmanship Standards to production inspections
- Experience using Calibrated inspection/measurement tools:
- Micrometers, Calipers, Height Gages, Pin Gages, Thread Gages, Ring Gages, Plug Gages, Feeler Gages, Torque Wrenches, Digital Multi Meter (DMM).
- Experience performing point to point wire harness and cable assembly verification
- Candidates must be a US citizen and meet DRS security standards as imposed by DoD, including the issuance of any necessary security clearance by the US government within a reasonable time after commencement of employment
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
IPC and/or ASQ Certifications:
- IPC-J-STD-001 (soldering)
- IPC-A-610 (Inspection of Electronic Assemblies, PWAs)
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 (Inspection of Wire Harnesses and Cables)
- ASQ Certified Quality Inspector
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee requires normal manual dexterity, speech and hearing. Specific vision abilities required by this job require frequent use of a computer monitor.

- Ability to stand for up to 9 hours a day
- Walking, lifting, bending, stooping and kneeling
