Job Summary

This position offers an opportunity to conceptualize and specify system control and power architectures for some of the world’s most highly power dense solutions and unique naval applications.  These designs include power converters, motor drives, uninterruptible power supplies, and power distribution systems ranging from several horsepower to multi-megawatts.  Efforts also include performing associated system engineering analyses, developing and managing related system requirements and specifications, working with a program team to disseminate and guide the design and architecture, and creating related design documentation.  
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze and apply customer and military specifications to ensure product and project compliance, utilizing a requirements traceability matrix (RTM) to drive design efforts
  • Conceptualizes the architecture of complex systems, subsystems or assemblies including interface requirements between system and subsystems
  • Applies in-depth knowledge of power electronics, drives and uninterruptible power supplies in order to effectively and efficiently design products from a component up to the system level
  • Provide required inputs to system analyses, i.e. risk analysis, safety analysis, FMEA, etc.
  • Responsible for driving technology and completion of activity on time and budget
  • Support testing of products, systems or subsystems 
  • Ability to complete a technical project independently and mentor and coach other engineers. 
  • Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments
  • Document component and subsystem specifications and material requirements
  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services
  • Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
  • Develop prototypes to retire key development risks
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with manufacturing, supply chain, program management and the customer as required
  • Participates heavily in preparation of the more complex and significant proposals, i.e., creating the conceptual designs, technical documentation, and budget estimates
  • Provides technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
  • Interact with technical management, other professionals, technicians and support personnel to coordinate, recommend and confer regarding technical activities and progress on large projects
  • May mentor and coach the work of others as assigned
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
  • Mentor and coach less experienced engineers
  • Involved with the analysis, design, development and implementation of new and/or existing systems/sub-systems.  May include Architectural Design, Requirements Engineering, or others.  Determines system specifications.  Supports acquisition of hardware and software (or subcontractor services as needed).

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering owith a minimum of 8 years of experience 
  • Mastery of technologies and domain knowledge 
  • Expected to have knowledge and significant experience in multiple engineering disciplines
  • Experience with the control and design of variable frequency drives, power electronics, and control electronics.
  • Proficiency of Matlab and Simulink simulation tools for simulation of electrical systems down to components
  • Model based design experience of power electronic systems desired
  • Real-time modeling experience of power electronic systems desired
  • Experience using DOORs for requirements management
  • Familiarity in performing system engineering analyses, i.e. risk analysis, safety analysis, FMEA, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to aid interactions within Engineering, other internal departments and external customers
  • US Citizenship required.
