Job Summary

Manage and support the efforts of the Supplier Quality Management Group (SQMG) comprised of Supplier Quality Engineers (SQEs) and In-Receiving Inspection (IRI) Inspectors to improve overall supplier quality and protect the production system from quality supplier escapes. Additionally, the manager will work with internal and external suppliers to improve overall quality. Develop standard work for SQE and IRI team members, reduce receiving inspection requirements based on quality thresholds in accordance with DRS process documents, policies, and procedures. Champion ISO 9001:2015 requirements to ensure site compliance and support programs in the execution of product development, verification, and delivery to satisfy customer requirements.

Job Responsibilities


Responsible for managing the Quality Engineers & Inspectors in the SQMG group by:
•    Leveraging Quality Skills in alignment to business needs to strengthen supplier oversight activities
•    Directing, monitoring, and appraising the performance of the SQMG, identifies training and educational needs and initiates development.
•    Using data to drive improvement through disciplined metrics management and team projects
•    Develops short- and long-range plans to improve the effectiveness of systems and processes while ensuring compliance with customer and internal quality standards, and to identify and resolve systematic and incidental quality problems
•    Develops and implements a systematic and effective process to investigate and resolve customer concerns and issues, and to ensure mutually beneficial and collaborative actions to maintain product quality
•    Reviews data submitted to ensure compliance with program requirements, prepares quality control reports, requirements, etc, in response to request for proposals, quotes, brochures, manuals, etc Reviews quality control program plans and inspection plans submitted for approval


Responsible for coordinating and supporting the efforts of the SQMG group by:


•    Ensuring the QE develops a Quality plan based on the contract requirements and contract deliverables
•    Determines quality control methodology and techniques used in inspecting and testing assigned contractor systems and/or equipment
•    Developing and implementing methods and procedures for quality control procedures and devises methods to assess cost and responsibility of discrepant material 
•    Manages direct and indirect budgets along with group expenses for the Quality Engineering & Inspection portions of the program budgets.
•    Reviews, Coaches and Develops Quality Engineering & Inspection cost estimates in support of proposal efforts
•    Ensures that products are inspected and tested as required prior to shipment
•    Establishes quality control programs to evaluate precision and accuracy of production and processing equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical facilities 
•    Identify and justify capital equipment and/or technology improvements
•    Supports, communicates, reinforces, and defends the mission, values, and culture of the organization




  • Bachelor’s Degree in quality engineering preferred or equivalent experience in a related technical field with a minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Minimum of 5 years management experience in Quality Roles (Inspection, Supplier Management, Quality Engineering) preferably manufacturing technically complex, military or government products.
  • Experience with performance management of direct and/or indirect reports
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication and writing skills
  • Ability to lead effective corrective action using disciplined problem-solving methods and statistical analysis
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001-2015 Standards
  • 6 Sigma Black Belt certification desired
  • ASQ certification desired
  • Must be a US Citizen
