Job Summary

In this position, you will assist with the design, development, and testing of electrical equipment for naval ships and submarines. This position will include involvement on one or multiple projects. Involvement on a project may fall anywhere in the product lifecycle, from the bid and proposal phase, through engineering design and development, to manufacturing and testing, to support of fielded products. Leonardo DRS’s Menomonee Falls, WI facility specializes in the design and manufacturing of three main types of electrical equipment: power distribution equipment (switchboards and switchgear), power conversion equipment, and motor controllers.

Job Responsibilities

•    Assist with the design, development, and testing of electrical equipment for naval ships and submarines
•    Create engineering and manufacturing drawings, including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and cable harness drawings
•    Perform and document detailed engineering calculations and analyses
•    Perform testing and troubleshooting of electrical systems, subsystems, and components in a laboratory environment
•    Assist with the selection of components
•    Collaborate with mechanical, software, systems, and manufacturing engineers to coordinate design efforts
•    Support the manufacturing team during the manufacturing and assembly process
•    Support the test engineering team during testing of electrical equipment
•    Review customer specifications and requirements
•    Draft technical reports and customer deliverable documentation
•    Adhere to established policies, procedures, government regulations and customer requirements
•    Provide written and verbal status reports to engineering management
•    Receive instruction from managers and senior level engineers
•    Apply knowledge of engineering principles/practices to assignments
•    Perform other duties and responsibilities as required
•    Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization


  • •    Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent education and experience.
    •    Excellent verbal and written communication skills to aid interactions within Electrical Engineering, other internal departments and external customers.
    •    Detail oriented, highly organized, and able to ensure multiple assignments are completed properly and on time.
    •    Able to effectively muti-task and handle changing work assignments, schedules, and priorities.
    •    Extensive PC skills in Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Windows, etc.
    •    Candidates must be a US citizen and meet DRS security standards as imposed by DoD, including the issuance of any necessary security clearance by the US government within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
    Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge
    •    Experience with power distribution equipment, specifically circuit breakers and switchgear
    •    Experience with cable harness design
    •    Experience with AutoCAD Electrical software
    •    Experience working in a manufacturing environment
    •    Capable of up to 10% travel, including air.
