Job Summary

Responsible for performing complex, advanced-level assembly functions within a cleanroom production environment, working under minimal supervision. This role requires extensive experience to resolve complex issues, serve as a resource to others, interpret detailed work instructions and specifications, and potentially assist in training lower-level employees. The successful candidate will be accountable for producing quality work to prescribed standards, focusing on quality and continuous improvement, while meeting customer commitments on schedule and within budget. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Assemble, align, and test complex optical modules requiring micron-level optical and mechanical tolerances.
  • Perform advanced-level assembly functions, including mechanical assembly, harness and cable work, and printed circuit board sub-assemblies, typically working from work instructions within Production.
  • Interpret blueprints, Process Flow Instructions (PFIs), and other written or verbal instructions to complete tasks accurately.
  • Resolve most production questions and problems independently, referring only the most complex issues to higher levels.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource to other team members in the resolution of complex problems and issues.
  • If required, perform all aspects of inspection, including in-process, final, and source inspections.
  • Effectively communicate with other functional departments, such as Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, and Sales, to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Follow written work instructions and adapt procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet special needs on non-routine duties and tasks.
  • May periodically assist in orienting and training lower-level employees.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all safety procedures, including proper use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and handling of materials, chemicals, tools, and equipment (WHMIS).
  • May participate in LEAN Events, "Six S" activities, and action teams for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization. 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an assembly specialty area (e.g., electronic assembly, opto-mechanical assembly or hermetic packaging).
  • Experience using precision optical, mechanical, and electrical measurement instrumentation (i.e., beam profile cameras, power meters, dial indicators, micrometers, calipers, and oscilloscopes).
  • Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned goals.
  • Must be a self-starter and demonstrate good decision-making ability.
  • Must maintain excellent attendance and punctuality records.
  • Must be experienced in the safe handling of chemicals.
  • Must have strong mechanical skills.
  • Soldering and wire bonding experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems is a plus.

The salary range for this position is $24.61/hour-33.22. This range reflects the good faith estimate of pay the employer is willing to offer at the time of posting. Several factors can influence the pay scale, including but not limited to: Federal contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope, and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate’s qualifications such as prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for: annual performance-based bonuses, equity awards, and overtime pay (for non-exempt employees as applicable.
