Job Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer position is responsible for developing a variety of HVAC&R product designs for both commercial and defense markets including heat exchangers, air conditioning, refrigeration, and air handling systems. This position will be responsible for designing new products using 2D and 3D CAD; sizing and selecting components; creating associated documentation; and supporting product testing, qualification, and production.

What You Will Do

  • Design of mechanical equipment, especially heat exchangers, air conditioning, refrigeration and air handling systems using 2D and 3D modeling software, primarily PTC Creo and AutoCAD
  • Engineering of HVAC&R equipment for component sizing, selection, and performance prediction
  • Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop compliant designs to best support them 
  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services
  • Develop manufacturing drawings, bills of material and associated supporting documentation for fabrication and delivery of products and prototypes
  • Support testing, qualification, documentation and analysis of prototypes, products, systems, or subsystems 
  • Review customer specifications and requirements to support bids and proposals
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and customers 
  • Provide budget, cost, and schedule input for status of project assignments

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field with 2+ years of experience
  • Experience designing mechanical components and equipment, preferably HVAC&R (air conditioning, air handling and refrigeration) equipment, including sheet metal parts, welded structures and machined components
  • Experience creating drawings (drafting) following ASME Y14.100 and associated documentation such as bill of materials
  • Experience designing and drafting with 2D CAD and 3D solid modeling software 
  • Comfortable and competent writing and creating technical documentation
  • Experience modeling, designing, and drafting with PTC CREO including assembly and sheet metal functionality
  • Experience with PDM/PLM software, especially Windchill
  • Experience drafting with AutoCAD Mechanical 2D
  • Experience designing defense products, especially for the US Navy 
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics
