Software Engineer II - Front-End / Full-Stack Applications
Germantown, MD, US, 20876
Job ID: 115049
Location: Germantown, MD
Business Unit: DRS RADA Technologies
Schedule: 9/80
Shift: First
DRS RADA Technologies, a subsidiary of Leonardo DRS, is focused on proprietary radar solutions and legacy avionics systems supporting the defense industry globally. The company is a global pioneer of AESA tactical radars for active military protection, counter-drone applications, critical infrastructure protection, and border surveillance.
About the Role:
DRS RADA Technologies is seeking a full-time, on-site Software Engineer II to design, build, and maintain modern front-end applications and full-stack features that support mission-critical radar and defense systems. This hands-on role is ideal for an engineer with strong TypeScript and React skills who enjoys building user-facing software, integrating with backend services, and turning complex workflows into usable application features. Prior radar or defense experience is helpful but not required; we value strong software fundamentals, curiosity, and the ability to learn complex technical domains.
What You Will Do:
- Build, test, debug, and maintain front-end applications and full-stack features that support mission-critical radar and defense systems.
- Develop user-facing application features using TypeScript, React, and related front-end technologies.
- Integrate user interfaces with backend services, REST APIs, data sources, and system workflows.
- Collaborate with backend, systems, integration, and test engineers to turn complex requirements into usable software features.
- Help turn limited requirements, CONOPS, and user workflows into practical application designs that can be reviewed, refined, and implemented.
- Participate in code reviews, debugging, testing, documentation, and delivery of production-quality software.
- Help improve usability, reliability, maintainability, and consistency across application features.
- Learn relevant domain concepts such as radar workflows, Linux-based environments, and mission-system operations.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field, plus at least two years of relevant software engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
- Experience developing production user interfaces using TypeScript and a modern component-based framework such as React, React Native, or Angular.
- Experience contributing to the design, build, test, debug, and maintenance of user-facing application features.
- Experience integrating front-end applications with backend services, APIs, data sources, or system workflows.
- Experience with at least one backend or general-purpose programming language such as Node.js, Python, C#, Java, or similar.
- Experience using Git and working in a collaborative software development environment.
- Helpful but not required: experience with complex user-facing applications such as dashboards, operator interfaces, engineering tools, data visualization, or workflow-heavy applications.
- Helpful but not required: exposure to Linux, Docker, radar, sensor, defense, or mission-critical software environments.
- Ability to learn complex technical domains, communicate clearly, and work effectively with software, systems, integration, and test engineers.
- U.S. citizenship is required. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance may be required for future program work.
What This Role Is Not:
- This is not a content-focused front-end role. The work is focused on interactive application features, tools, workflows, and interfaces that support mission-critical radar and defense systems.
- This is not a backend or platform engineering role. While you will integrate with backend services, APIs, and system workflows, the primary focus is front-end and full-stack application feature development.
- This is not a remote position. This full-time role is based on-site in Germantown, Maryland, where close collaboration with software, systems, hardware, integration, and test teams is essential.
- This is not a senior architect role. The Software Engineer II is expected to contribute independently, make sound implementation decisions, collaborate effectively, and grow technical ownership over time.
- This is not software developed in isolation. You will work within a cross-functional team and contribute to applications that must be usable, reliable, and maintainable in demanding real-world defense environments.
What We Bring:
At DRS RADA Technologies, your work supports technologies that help protect military personnel, critical infrastructure, and communities around the world. You will join a mission-driven team developing advanced radar technology that supports system performance and real-world defense applications.
