Software Engineer II - Cyber Automation & Tools

Location:

Germantown, MD, US, 20876

Job ID: 115069

Location: Germantown, MD

Business Unit: DRS RADA Technologies

Schedule: 9/80

Shift: First

DRS RADA Technologies, a subsidiary of Leonardo DRS, is focused on proprietary radar solutions and legacy avionics systems supporting the defense industry globally. The company is a global pioneer of AESA tactical radars for active military protection, counter-drone applications, critical infrastructure protection, and border surveillance.

About the Role:

DRS RADA Technologies is seeking a full-time, on-site Software Engineer II – Cyber Automation & Tools to build automation tools and scripts that support cyber, software assurance, system remediation, recovery, and maintenance workflows. This hands-on role is ideal for an engineer with strong Linux, Python, and Bash skills who enjoys turning recurring manual processes into reliable tools, scripts, CI/CD steps, and documented workflows. Prior radar or defense experience is helpful but not required; we value strong software fundamentals, practical automation skills, and the ability to learn complex technical domains.

What You Will Do:

  • Build, test, debug, and maintain automation tools and scripts that support cyber, software assurance, system scanning, remediation, recovery, and maintenance workflows.
  • Develop tools primarily in Python and Bash for Linux-based development, lab, and system environments.
  • Support source code security scanning and software assurance activities using Fortify, SonarQube, Coverity, or equivalent tools.
  • Integrate security scanning and automation tools into CI/CD workflows to improve visibility, repeatability, and early issue detection.
  • Help triage scan results, identify repeatable remediation patterns, and automate common fixes where practical.
  • Apply those tools in support of installation, troubleshooting, remediation, recovery, and maintenance activities for mission-critical systems.
  • Work with software, systems, cyber, integration, and test engineers to improve consistency, repeatability, and visibility across technical workflows.
  • Document scripts, tools, procedures, and recovery steps so they can be reused and maintained by the broader team.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, or a related technical field, plus at least two years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong hands-on Linux experience, including administration, troubleshooting, shell scripting, and working in Linux-based development or lab environments.
  • Proficiency building automation tools or scripts using Python and Bash.
  • Experience supporting system installation, troubleshooting, remediation, recovery, or maintenance activities.
  • Experience with, or exposure to, source code security scanning or software assurance tools such as Fortify, SonarQube, Coverity, or equivalent tools.
  • Ability to translate technical requirements and recurring manual processes into scripts, tools, CI/CD steps, or documented workflows.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts, Windows administration, PowerShell, system-hardening practices, Docker, or vulnerability scanning is helpful but not required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work across software, systems, cyber, integration, and test disciplines.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

What This Role Is Not:

  • This is not a general software test automation role. While you may work with test teams and CI/CD workflows, the primary focus is cyber, software assurance, remediation, recovery, and repeatable system-maintenance automation.
  • This is not a cyber analyst, incident response, or threat-hunting role. The work is focused on building and improving tools, scripts, workflows, and automation that support cyber and software assurance activities.
  • This is not a Windows-only administration role. Windows knowledge is useful, but the primary technical center of gravity is Linux-based automation using Python and Bash.
  • This is not a remote position. This full-time role is based on-site in Germantown, Maryland, where close collaboration with software, systems, cyber, integration, and test teams is essential.
  • This is not work performed in isolation. You will work within a cross-functional team and contribute to workflows that improve the security, maintainability, and repeatability of mission-critical defense systems.

What We Bring:

At DRS RADA Technologies, your work supports technologies that help protect military personnel, critical infrastructure, and communities around the world. You will join a mission-driven team developing advanced radar technology that supports system performance and real-world defense applications.

We offer competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage; a company contribution to a health savings account; telemedicine; life and disability insurance; legal insurance; and a 401(k) savings plan.
