Job Summary

We're hiring a Manager, Test Engineering in our Germantown, MD office.  In this role, you will develop product line verification, validation, and test automation strategies across Signal Solutions line of business to support production/manufacturing and development teams; you will lead test engineering development efforts that align to these strategies including, but not limited to, Test Requirements capture, Test Plan Development, Test Equipment and Fixture definitions, Test Software development, and Capital Equipment (CAPEX) planning.  Some remote flexibility permitted* plus we work a 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off)!

Our facility is currently located in Germantown, MD.  Our business is experiencing growth in multiple market areas and as a result we are excited to announce that in January 2023 we will be in our newly built facility located just south of Frederick, off I-270.  This modern facility, with ESG initiatives and surrounding green spaces, offers many amenities quickly accessible to this attractive location.

Job Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a test capabilities roadmap by keeping abreast with industry test methodologies and leading periodic interfaces with key internal/external stakeholders on both technical and business levels to shape the test strategy/roadmap
  • Establish and maintain an Automated Test Framework to support Signal Solutions line of business covering both development and production teams
  • Plan, manage, and direct overall engineering activities of the Test Engineering department
  • Provide functional management for the department to include manpower/resource planning, training, coaching, career guidance, etc.
  • Provide domain technical expertise and assistance to others (engineering, support personnel, DRS leadership, technical management, etc.)
  • Support management of budget, cost and schedule for test engineering activities on various programs
  • Contribute to the preparation of proposals (e.g. Internal/DRS proposals, responses to RFPs/RFQs/RFIs, etc.)
  • Analyze product/stakeholder specifications and requirements, and develop test designs and approaches to best support them within time and cost constraints
  • Support verification testing, transition to production, and field issue resolution
  • Effectively communicate with team members, manufacturing, supply chain, program management, senior leaders, customers and key stakeholders as required
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other technical field with a minimum of five years relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities)
    • Relevant experience includes people/team management, test automation, data analytics, test design and architecture, and/or process improvement
  • Experience with budget and cost management. Ability to organize and manage multiple products/programs with the focus on delivering within cost and on schedule
  • Combination of industry knowledge, leadership skills, management expertise and in-depth knowledge of design engineering systems and processes
  • Proven ability to perform problem analysis and resolution using lean and continuous improvement tools and tactics to satisfy customer and business needs. 
    • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher) certification preferred
  • Well versed in test method definition, execution, data analysis, and leading test automation initiatives that eliminate or significantly reduce manual processes and/or overall test touch-time
    • Experience managing test frameworks in both Linux and Windows environments
    • Experience developing tests in LabVIEW is ideal
    • Proficiency with software scripting languages (Python preferred) 
    • Experience parsing test data and developing meaningful insights using technical tools
    • Knowledge of data science including machine learning and applied to operations (i.e. MLOps) preferred
    • Experience with SQL and database technologies preferred
  • Experience in development/production environments, and transition processes between the two
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, negotiation, communication, and writing skills

*This position has the option of being either fully onsite in our Germantown facility or partly remote (onsite Tues-Thurs).  Must live within commuting distance of the facility regardless of choice.  Please note we are moving to Frederick in early 2023.
