Job Summary

We're hiring a Designer II with experience designing systems to military specifications in our Fort Walton Beach, FL office.  *This position offers some remote flexibility*

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the department by creating moderately complex mechanical/electrical/electronic designs for new product parts, subassemblies, assemblies, or systems configurations using CAD or manual systems, compile Bills of Materials, and assist in the assembly of prototypes
  • Draw multiple views, depict relationship of component and parts, identify dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerances, and materials, prepare bills of material and specifications, create documentation required and processing Engineering Change Orders. ensure adherence to designated quality and cost parameters, operate various CAD systems
  • Ensure quality of drawings and functionality of equipment by assisting in the building/acquiring of prototypes, testing and analyzing results, making various calculations (such as strength of materials, weights, simple forces, and stresses), analyzing the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems, recommending possible solutions or alternate construction, modifying drawings as required, conferring with engineers to resolve issues, and adhering to company policies and procedures
  • Provide assistance to lesser experienced drafters by communicating work priorities, providing technical assistance and verifying the accuracy of work
  • Maintain CAD equipment by following manufacturer’s instruction and procedures, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs as required
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results in a cooperative and supportive manner
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Maintain technical knowledge by conferring with technical specialists and suppliers, attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies


  • Associate’s degree or equivalent and 4+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling using sound practices for creation of 2D drawings and/or model-based definitions of parts and assemblies
  • Demonstrated experience producing ASME Y14.100 compliant drawings to include assemblies, detail parts, installation drawings, general arrangement drawings, and control drawings
  • Thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and its applications per ASME Y14.5
  • Demonstrated proficiencies in PTC Creo and Autocad
  • Thorough understanding of design practices and manufacturing methods of various fabricated components potentially including machining, sheet metal, welding, casting, and injection molding
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Experience in designing systems to military specifications
  • Experience using PLM systems for configuration management and document control
  • For compliance with Executive Order 14042 candidates must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19


Additional preferred qualifications:

  • Experience producing Digital Product Definitions (Model-based Definitions) per ASME Y14.41 is preferred
  • Experience in executing Design to Unit Cost and Design for Manufacturability initiatives
  • Experience in designing electronics packages
  • Experience in design of mechanisms and use of kinematics in CAD
  • Working knowledge of additional CAD systems including Solidworks and CATIA

*This position has the option of being either fully onsite in our Fort Walton Beach facility or partly remote (onsite Tues-Thurs).  Must live within commuting distance of the designated facility regardless of choice.
