DRS Naval Power Systems in Danbury, CT designs and delivers advanced naval power and propulsion solutions that enable mission-critical performance to the US Navy and allied fleets around the world. We are seeking an accomplished Senior Director of Engineering to lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers across mechanical, electrical, test, and systems engineering. We need a strategic leader to drive product development, engineering excellence, and innovation in support of our growing portfolio. Our ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise and a passion for people growth and development.
What You Will Do
- Provide technical and strategic leadership across all engineering functions to ensure execution of programs on time, on budget, and to specification.
- Lead engineering strategy for product development, modernization, and technology roadmaps supporting naval power and propulsion systems.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within a high-performing engineering organization.
- Partner with Program Management, Operations, and Business Development to align engineering priorities with business objectives.
- Oversee design assurance, validation, and qualification processes to ensure product quality, safety, and compliance with defense standards.
- Develop and mentor engineering talent to build future technical leadership capability.
- Represent engineering in customer and government technical discussions and design reviews
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 15+ years of experience (including at least 5 years in technical leadership or executive roles).
- Proven track record of managing complex defense, naval, or power systems programs.
- Demonstrated success in leading large, cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of design-to-manufacture processes, systems engineering, project engineering, and lifecycle management.
U.S. Citizenship required. This position may require an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
