Job Summary
The Material Planning Manager is responsible for leading the development, execution, and oversight of integrated program schedules and plans for defense programs. This role provides strategic direction to planning teams, ensures alignment of project milestones, resources, and budgets with contractual requirements, and drives the analysis of program performance, risks, and critical paths. The Planning Manager collaborates closely with Program Managers, engineering, production, finance, and subcontractors to resolve issues, optimize execution, and support program objectives. Additionally, this position enforces organizational policies, mentors planning staff, and ensures programs are delivered on time, within cost, and to technical requirements.
Job Responsibilities
- Analyze material and program reports to understand issues and create action plans
- Oversee the day-to-day activities of the planners and coordinators
- Create and maintain special reports
- Interface with production and engineering to understand and resolve issues
- Enforce company and department policies and procedures
- Monitor metrics and take action as appropriate
- Actively involved in program closure activities
- Communicate and clarify departmental goals and metrics
- Responsible for ensuring monthly budgets are not exceeded, takes action to realign to plan if budgets are exceeded
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in high-technology or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain management principles, tools, and lifecycle processes from NPI through obsolescence.
- Proven leadership and stakeholder management skills, including influencing, conflict resolution, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience with supplier management, risk mitigation, cost reduction, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Working knowledge of finance, contracting, manufacturing, logistics, and applicable regulations (DoD, ITAR, EAR, FAR/DFARS).
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex programs, including manpower planning, schedules, budgets, and program reviews.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and customer-facing communication skills.
