Job Summary
Leonardo DRS is looking for a confident, highly motivated Scientist with semiconductor processing, leadership, and project management experience to join our Research and Development team. We are looking for a strong candidate with experience in photolithography including fab processing and mask layout as well as hands on experience in other processing modules. As a Scientist, you will be an integral part of DRS’ new product and technology development efforts in infrared sensors. You will interface with other team members representing a wide range of disciplines, including material science, process engineering, device physics, test engineering, and system design. You will have hands on responsibility for specialized semiconductor device process integration, semiconductor fabrication process development, new detector fabrication, experimental design, and device characterization. In addition, you will be the technical and/or project lead on critical development projects guiding both technical direction as well as coordination of key technical resources.
Job Responsibilities
- Candidate must be able to drive highly complex technical projects both technically as well as meeting financial and schedule objectives.
- Candidate must understand process yield and yield analysis
- Candidate must be able to develop process flows and must be able to coordinate and communicate technical requirements and assess various process technology with engineers and scientists to ensure project success.
- Understand basic semiconductor device physics to comprehend the effect process, fabrication, and integration have on final device performance.
- Must understand device design parameters and associated mask layout requirements.
- Must be willing to learn photomask design for future products.
- Design and develop specialized processes for fabrication of photodiodes for infrared detection using both industry standard and highly customized semiconductor processes and fabrication equipment.
- Construct and execute experimental plans to solve problems. Identify key input and output variables and provide analysis of results.
- Responsible for identifying the processing conditions which will best achieve the device design goals.
- Participate and contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams
- Organize, interpret, and present results to technical peers as well as to upper management or customers.
- Accept responsibility and accountability.
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, (Ph.D. preferred) in relevant discipline such as Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: 2+ years in semiconductor device processing and process engineering
- Hands-on experience with semiconductor fabrication tools and processes with particular knowledge and experience with photolithography (coat, expose, develop) and photomask design and layout.
- Ability to understand and analyze data related to semiconductor device performance
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- The candidate must be organized, proactive, and able to communicate to both highly technical and programmatic audiences with equal ease.
- U.S citizenship is required. Must be able to meet security standards and able to obtain a secret clearance.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 25 lbs less than 5% per week
Ability to stand for several hours at a time
Work Conditions
Travel up to 5% per year is possible

- Preferred Skills and Experience
- 5+ years of photolithography and/or other semiconductor fabrication experience.
- Knowledge and experience with a variety of semiconductor fabrication process modules such as etch, thin films, metrology, and wet and dry cleans.
- Familiarity with photomask layout software.
- Prior experience or willingness to work in a small R&D semiconductor fab environment.
- Basics of implementation of statistical process control (SPC)
- Experience operating and/or interpreting data from a scanning electron microscope, FTIR, ellipsometer, or other thin-film characterization and metrology tools and techniques.
- MATLAB, MATHCAD, LabView, JMP, SpotFire, MiniTab and other relevant engineering software packages to analyze data.
U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
