Job Summary

Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to our team in our Engineering Center of Excellence, which is currently located in Burnsville, MN, but will soon be relocating to our new facility Eagan, MN. 

If you're a Mixed Domain Circuit Designer who has an emphasis on PCB layout throughout a program lifecycle from requirements to verification, this one is for you!

In this position, you will be responsible for electrical engineering activities including: creating circuits which meet design parameters, developing test procedures, analyzing reports, creating process documentation, and conducting testing of products, subsystems, and systems.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design in multiple schematic capture and layout tools as well as FPGA Tool Chains for development
  • VHDL/Verilog HDL design
  • Lead design, development, schematic and layout, test, and simulate circuits
  • Produce documentation including: hardware design description, block diagrams, and test plans
  • Occasional on-site support testing of products, subsystems, and systems in Largo, FL
  • Review designs from other engineers and provide critical feedback
  • Analyze and provide recommendations to mitigate part obsolescence and diminishing sources of supply
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering team members
  • Provide regular reporting of progress and status
  • Responsible for independent completion of assigned task on time and meeting technical requirements
  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and services
  • Develop models, simulations, and prototypes as necessary to mitigate key development risks
  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer, or business meetings
  • Support the preparation of proposals

Job Responsibilities (cont.)

  • Experience with Intel/Altera toolset
  • Experience migrating legacy designs – work experience in multiple tools: Cadence/Allegro, Xpedition, and Altium Designer
  • Use electronics design processes and archival techniques for schematic entry/board layout/library work
  • Electronics integration and test
  • Layout of multilayer PCBs with attention to the rules of thumb regarding signal integrity
  • RF design including tuned circuits, PCB filters, coupled lines, and embedded components
  • FPGA VHDL or Verilog including Design Entry, Behavioral Simulation, Synthesis, Implementation, Place and Route, Static Timing Analysis, and troubleshooting throughout
  • Communication circuit physical layer including: termination and routing differential pairs
  • Protocol layer including forward error correction techniques
  • Design for EMI, EMC, and ESD tenants including filtering, circuit protection, grounding and shielding, power input, and test.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other related technical field with a minimum of 5 years of experience
    • Master's degree preferred
  • Fluency in technologies and application domain
  • Ability to independently lead a technical group

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.

 

The expected pay scale for this position is $99,000/year - $155,000/year. Should the level, location, or scope of the position change during the hiring process, the pay scale may be modified accordingly. When extending an offer of employment, Leonardo DRS considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position; any Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education/training, certifications, and key skills; internal equity; and market and business considerations.
