Job Summary

This role is responsible for supporting mechanical development, qualification, transition to production and sustaining activities across multiple products, systems, or subsystems. The candidate must possess the ability to work cross-functionally to successfully resolve technical issues and support implementation of technical improvements. In addition, the candidate shall demonstrate consistently good judgment and will be able to effectively communicate with stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for technical support and completion of assigned tasks as part of a cross-functional, multi-site development team that includes Systems, Software, Electrical, Hardware, Mechanical, and Specialty Engineers
  • Interact and communicate clearly (written and oral) with technical management, other professionals, technicians, support personnel, program management, and the customer as required to coordinate, recommend, and confer regarding technical activities and progress.
  • Support the design, development, modification, analysis, and documentation of various mechanical systems.
  • Support design completion, fabrication and modification of mechanical and/or electromechanical components, sub-systems and systems which may include Mechanical Analysis, Aerodynamics/Fluids, Thermal, Fluid Systems, Mechanical Packaging, or others.
  • Use computer aided design tools to create and update integrated 3D CAD/CAM/CAE mechanical modeling and drawing solutions. 
  • Creo CAD experience is preferred, additionally experience with Inventor, SolidWorks or NX is relevant. 
  • Evaluate and recommend design approaches to meet production requirements for new or improved products or services and investigate solutions to product or process problems.

Secondary Accountabilities

  • Identify engineering process/capability improvement opportunities, be proactive in continuously improving processes and efficiency.
  • Provide labor estimates and schedule input for design assignments.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical proposals.
  • Support and participate in technical engineering activities; attend appropriate engineering, customer, or business meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field and 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to define and complete technical projects independently.
  • Must possess excellent analytical and communication skills, written and oral.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Hands-on mechanical assembly or fabrication experience preferred (professional or hobby).
  • Desired experience with RF electromechanical products, components, and interconnects, integration of circuit card assemblies into electromechanical packages, design of hardware to meet maritime environmental specifications including surface treatments and finishes for corrosion protection in maritime environments and in conjunction with adjoining dissimilar materials
  • Competent technical expertise and application domain knowledge

The expected pay scale for this position is $70,744/year - $116,338/year. Should the level, location, or scope of the position change during the hiring process, the pay scale may be modified accordingly. When extending an offer of employment, Leonardo DRS considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position; any Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education/training, certifications, and key skills; internal equity; and market and business considerations.
