Field Service Engineer

Job Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor – Repair and Overhaul, the Field Service Engineer will support routine field Service activities in operating environments at depots, training sites, and customer field operations with training, operation or repair

As a Field Service Engineer, your main responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Supports routine Field Service repair and overhaul in operating environments at customer facilities, training sites, and customer field operations involving training, operation, or repair
  • Troubleshoots technical issues involving DRS-specific equipment at military and commercial field locations
  • Takes complex issues that cannot be resolved by lower-level technicians and work with engineering remotely to resolve them
  • Determines solutions for routine technical problems by working remotely with the DRS engineering head office in Kanata, Ontario
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently with or without supervision
  • May interface directly with customer personnel to address technical support issues either in person or by phone
  • Works at remote locations under supervision of others, including Navy personnel
  • Provides regular reports on progress and status, including technical field service reports or issue summaries
  • Completes assigned tasks on time and meets technical requirements
  • Communicates clearly, both verbally and in writing, with company personnel and customers as required
  • May participate in the preparation of less complex proposals
  • Attends appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings 
  • Provides input and recommends process improvements. Supports, communicates, reinforces, and defends the mission, values, and culture of the organization.
  • Travel to customer sites as and when required.

What you require to be successful in the role:

  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Electrical engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Minimum of one (1) years of experience in electrical design in a light manufacturing environment
  • EET or P. Eng. designation, and eligible for registration with Engineers NS
  • Familiarity with the application of military and commercial standards to electrical designs is required
  • Experience reading schematics and engineering specs, with a strong ability to troubleshoot
  • Demonstrated understanding and strong interests in power electronics and power converters design
  • Demonstrated application of electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, testing procedures and related knowledge to construct and debug power electronics circuitry in relation to the design of power conversion equipment
  • Knowledge of RS232 communication protocols, Linux operating systems, communications systems, and audio circuitry is considered an asset.
  • Works well within a team.
