Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Manager, Engineering the Junior Electrical Engineer is primarily responsible for working with the Engineering Team on the design, development and testing of switch-mode power conversion equipment. This is an in-office role, based out of our Bedford, NS location.

Job Responsibilities

  • Involved with the design, development, modification and analysis of various electronics systems.  May include Hardware, Power Engineering, Power Electronic Engineering, Electromagnetic Engineering, Integrated Circuit Engineering, Components or others.  Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in existing products or systems and makes modifications as needed.  Compile and evaluate design and test data.  Analyze, develop and recommend design approaches.
  • Support and participate in technical activity
  • Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems 
  • May use computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments 
  • Ability to work independently under supervision of others
  • Provide regular reporting of progress and status
  • Responsible for completion of assigned task on time and meeting technical requirements
  • Review customer specifications and requirements, and under direction, develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable 
  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services
  • Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
  • Develop prototypes to retire key development risks as directed
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required
  • May participate in preparation of less complex proposals
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Minimum of 1-3 years experience in electrical design in a light manufacturing environment
  • Eligible for registration with Engineers Nova Scotia (EIT or PEng)
  • Familiarity with the application of military and commercial standards to electrical designs is required
  • Experience reading schematics and engineering specs, with a strong ability to troubleshoot
  • Demonstrated understanding and strong interest in power electronics and power converter design
  • Demonstrated application of electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, testing procedures and related knowledge to construct and debug power electronics circuitry in relation to the design of power conversion equipment
  • Strong ability to analyze, record and interpret test data to determine product acceptability
  • Involvement in the design, development, modification, and analysis of various electronics systems
  • Supports engineering with a variety of complex engineering duties and/or hands on tasks
  • Multi-layer Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design capabilities considered an asset
  • Knowledge of CAN, SPI, USB, I2C, RS485, RS232 communication protocols to new product designs considered an asset
  • Works well within a team
