Software Engineering Intern

 Title: Software Engineering Intern

 

Position Summary: The essential roles for the summer intern (listed below) require capabilities in 1), Programming in C and C++ 2) technical writing about software, and 3) technically supporting business development tasks. The person in this role shall collaborate with the other interns on the project, the AAC lead engineer, business development managers, program managers, software engineers, and systems engineers.  The role will require a limited amount of travel, to locations in the continental United States.  The primary office would be at the AAC facility in Columbia, MD. Travel would be possibly to other AAC Facilities at Uniontown, PA; at the Navy Yard in Washington, DC; or Hauppauge, NY. The roles include:

  • Computer software analysis and technical writing
  • Requirements analysis and technical writing

 

Duties and Responsibilities:  The Software Engineering Intern is responsible for performing tasks as directed which includes the following but is not limited to these tasks: 

  • Performing analysis using Software Design tools
  • Generating documentation including status reports, peer briefing material, and reports to an advisor
  • Developing and reviewing MATLAB models and generating block diagrams
  • Conduct limited scope engineering work under the supervision of Engineers
  • Gather and assemble data for engineers
  • Perform a wide variety of tasks to gain familiarity with the engineering staff, methods, programs, and practices
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Must have successfully completed a course using C or C++ prior to the start of the internship
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US DoD Security Clearance

 

Additional Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge:

The candidate should have the experiences listed below, either on the job or during graduate studies:

  • Performed analysis using Software Design tools
  • Presented to a group of peers in public.
  • Documented a design and provided status reports. 
  • Generated documentation including status reports, peer briefing material, and reports to an advisor.
  • Developed and reviewed MATLAB models and generated block diagrams.
  • Computer Skills will preferably include a number of the following applications:  MATLAB, Microsoft Office

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting up to 25 lbs up to 25% of time  
  • Walking: up to 25% of time
  • Climbing, Bending, Standing, Stooping: up to 10% of time
  • Sitting: up to 75% of time
  • Travel: up to 10% of time
       

 AAC works on a 9/80 compressed schedule whereby employees work 80 hours in 2 weeks with every other Friday off.
